For Immediate Release November 11, 2009 MarketingWorks Featured on Owner Donna Vassallo Discusses Challenges of Becoming Self-Employed New York, NY — Donna Vassallo, owner of the copywriting firm Marketing Works NY, was the featured guest on the Blog Talk Radio show “Dark Side of the Moon,” hosted by Michael Ferreira. The show aired on Thursday, October 29. This weekly online radio show features interviews with “reluctant entrepreneurs” who have recently left the corporate world to launch their own business. MarketingWorks’ owner, Donna Vassallo, was asked to appear on the show as she has been self-employed for over 14 years. During the interview, Donna discussed her motivation to start her own business, the challenges of being self-employed, marketing strategies for gaining new business, and the importance of networking to gain new referrals and customers. “The company I worked for was purchased by another firm and I didn’t like what my new situation would be. So my initial plan was to do freelance writing projects while looking for another job,” says Donna. “But I enjoyed the freedom of being self-employed too much. So I created a business card and a price list and set up shop for myself. That was in 1995 and I haven’t looked back.” Despite the economic slowdown, Donna encourages those recently downsized or unhappy with their current careers to become self-employed. “If I had one word of advice for budding business owners, it would be ‘fake it until you make it.’ You may be in for a bumpy ride, but it will so be worth it.” About MarketingWorks Contact: |
